The history of human use of cork lasted for thousands of years.
It is generally believed that in the glacial period, about 25 million years ago, Quercus variabilis relied on strong bark to survive in the Mediterranean basin instead of disappearing like other less resistant species.

Cork, an industry that has continued for centuries
In the late 17th century, cork was used more and more widely before the industrial revolution by producing corks for wines, especially in the champagne areas of northern France. From a historical perspective, it is no exaggeration to say that cork has made an indelible contribution to this famous wine.
Quercus variabilis forest and climate change
Feasibility of cork production owes much to the AMORIM Group activities, and cork production has played a positive role in carbon curing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it has a positive impact on the climate.
Quercus variabilis solidified carbon during photosynthesis, which is based on plant growth and the process of converting atmospheric CO2 into O2 and organic material cellulose. This process solidified CO2, and thus Quercus variabilis forest was considered to play an important role in carbon sequestration.

Natural cork sheets

In order to ensure the quality of the products, all the cork sheets produced are made from raw materials which are chosen according to the most stringent control methods.

Granulated cork

At all stages of production, all raw materials which control the fabrication process of granulated corks are taken from the previously chosen cork board and made into natural corks and cork sheets.

Manufacturing process

The process is developed to ensure that the granulated corks achieve high levels of consistency in physical and chemical properties.

Cork sheets deodorization process - INOS ||

Since the cork sheets will contact with wine directly and long, proper handling of it is an important part of the whole manufacturing process. Amorim will perform a solid/liquid extraction process for these cork sheets, which is called INOS.

Composite cork blocks - All-rounder

Cork is a material which is completely constituted by resin cells, cellulose and air, one of its main features is the abnormal resistance to the change of temperature and humidity, and it has excellent quality of insulation, noise insulation and vibration isolation. It is also worth mentioning that it can expand and compress repeatedly without changing its material properties. Nature gives cork a unique structure.

Thanks to its unique properties, composite cork blocks are often used in various industries, such as gifts, household articles and office supplies, shoes (such as orthopedic sole), be combined with leather, note boards, automobile manufacture and transportation equipment, packaging, sealers and furniture.
